COVID, BINAX, and Virtual School

Today We are sending home the Binax Now release forms which will allow our certified nurses the ability to test your child for COVID without sending them home first. This method will prevent many close contact students from needing to quarantine.

What can you do:

  • Sign the form and return it by Friday so that we can provide the service to your family
  • Check all family members for COVID symptoms every morning
  • Keep your family home if anyone has any COVID symptoms until they are assessed by a doctor or our nurse allows them back in the building

Marion County and St. Monica School community are demonstrating an increase in COVID symptoms. If this trend continues, we will need to switch to virtual learning for a period of time.

Here is our plan:

If any single classroom through 5th grade has more than 30% of the students out of the building, the entire class will move to virtual learning for a minimum of 2 weeks with a return date to be set by administration. If any grade level 6th-8th grade has more than 30% of the students out of the building, the entire grade level will move to virtual learning for a minimum of 2 weeks with a return date to be set by administration. This will require all students to connect daily for live direct instruction following his/her schedule. If the class is not virtual, students can access their assignments through Google Classroom and email the teacher with questions. Materials may be available for pick up depending on the classroom situation.

We want to continue to offer in-person learning all year. To do this, you must keep your children home when symptoms are present within any family member in the household.  It is up to you to keep everyone safe.

You are required to create a safe environment for your family and your community. In this time when our community is experiencing a pandemic, please remember several of our Catholic social teachings and how they should frame your thoughts and responses in 2021:

  • A Call to Family, Community, and Participation - Seeking together the common good of all, especially the poor and vulnerable. Wear a face covering and follow the screening directions to keep you and those around you healthy.
  • Options for the Poor and Vulnerable - We are charged with putting the needs of the poor and vulnerable first. Wear a face covering and follow the screening directions to keep you and those around you healthy.
  • The Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers - Work is a form of continuing participation in God's creation. Basic rights of workers must be respected including a safe work environment. Wear a face covering and follow the screening directions to keep you and those around you healthy.
  • Solidarity - We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. We are our brothers and sisters keepers, wherever they may be. Wear a face covering and follow the screening directions to keep you and those around you healthy.
  • Care for God’s Creation - We show our respect for the Creator as a requirement of our faith. We are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God’s creation. Wear a face covering and follow the screening directions to keep you and those around you healthy.

Thank you for your compliance with these rules. Continue to pray for the health and safety of all and be safe.
