Recess Help Needed

We are striving to take students outside for recess daily. In order to provide the safest environment we need your help. Our recess period in most need of support is from 12:00 - 1:05, for our youngest students. Even if you do not have a student in Kindergarten or First Grade, we welcome your  help supervising the children on the playground. Please consider signing up for a time slot.

How to help your child focus/ Cómo ayudar a su hijo a concentrarse en su tarea

Many students multitask with media while doing their homework, and most of them think this has no effect on the quality of their work. Despite what kids think and do, frequently using several devices at a time affects the ability to focus. Productivity suffers when switching rapidly between different tasks because the brain has to re-focus every time it switches to a new activity. Over time, heavy multitaskers can also have trouble with face-to-face conversations.

Are your kids multitasking during homework? Here are six tips to help them focus on one activity at a time.

Attendance

Our policy this year has been that students are in one of three categories:  Virtual by choice, Temporary Virtual (due to illness or quarantine), or In Person.

  • Virtual by choice means that as a family, you have decided that it is best to keep your student(s) home.  To return to the building as an in person learner, a two week notice is required.
  • Temporary Virtual due to illness or quarantine students are given a return date by the nurse and can only return after consulting with the nurse.
  • In-person learners are expected to be in the building daily unless they are ill or have an appointment or other obligation.

We've not allowed families to choose to be virtual for only a day or two and then return to the building.  An In-person student who attends class virtually for a day or two (without becoming a Virtual by choice or Temporary Virtual learner) will be marked absent for the day because they are not physically in the building. This allows teachers and staff to know which students to expect daily and to prepare work for virtual students.  It is also a matter of safety as we need to know an exact number of students  in the building at any given time.
