Parent-Teacher Conferences

Spring Break

Spring Break is March 20-28. CLICK HERE to find information on travel from the CDC and CLICK HERE to see COVID cases for the areas you wish to visit. We ask that you self quarantine for 10 days if you choose to vacation in a place where you are unmasked and within 6 feet of other people. This would include crowded beaches, parks, or other common spaces inside or out where you are within 6 feet of others. Consider your options prior to going somewhere that may put your health or the health of others in jeopardy. Remember that just because you do not have symptoms does not mean that you are not transmitting COVID to others. If you need to self quarantine after Spring Break or have developed COVID-like symptoms after travel please contact the school nurses at nurse@smsindy.org. Thank you.

Eagle Scout Project to Help Pre-School Children

Most children are read to about 1,600 hours before they start Kindergarten. However, children in poverty are read to about 25 hours before they start Kindergarten. As a result, when children in poverty go into Kindergarten, they are about two years behind other children. I learned that St. Mary's Child Center can help 85% of the children they serve start Kindergarten at the same reading level as other children. To accomplish their mission, they need more books to read to the children.

Teddy Isakson, a Boy Scout in Troop 514 at St. Monica Parish, has an Eagle Scout Project to collect 120 new or gently used books in English or Spanish for Pre-School children who attend St. Mary’s Child Center. He is also collecting monetary donations to purchase bookshelves and books.

If you would like to help, you could send books or donations to Teddy Isakson, 8444 Flatwood Court, Indianapolis IN, 46278. You could also contact him at tisakson20@gmail.com or (317) 600-8045. Checks should be made payable to Boy Scout Troop 514.
