Apps and Social Media
Parents, teachers, and administrators are working hard to educate all children. A common barrier to spiritual, academic, and mental growth is the use of smartphones. Many students have access to apps that are not age appropriate. They view something in the app then try to duplicate it themselves. Quite often these behaviors are inappropriate, rude, demeaning, racist, and mean. As families, you can use various websites to get a good idea of what is age appropriate. We recommend little to no screen time for children in PK-8th grade. We are aware that many families choose different amounts of screen time. If you choose to allow your child to have access to apps please know what they are viewing and how they should respond.
Here are some websites to help get started:
Common Sense Media is one website that provides parents with information about movies, games, TV, books, and apps.
- CLICK HERE for their review of TikTok with a recommended age of 15 or older
Protect Young Eyes is another website dedicated to providing information for parents.
Smart Social is a website dedicated to helping parents navigate teen apps.
Pluggedin is a website with reviews on movies, games, books, TV, music, and YouTube channels.
We ask everyone to take time to review what your child is viewing. Let's keep our kids safe spiritually, mentally, and physically.
